Website Manager

Each year the WMJFL Board of Directors updates the rule book, guidelines, web site and more so that parents, coaches, players, and even officials are up to date on what the league has done to get ready for the upcoming season.  These "Points of Emphasis" are for all to review with the hope that all involved will better understand what our league is all about and what is expected.  Here are some "Points" to be aware of for the 2019 WMJFL season...

  • Practices
    • The league allows for teams to begin during the week of August 5.  However, the MHSAA has put out statements regarding when they believe all teams should be practicing and for how long throughout the season.  For 2019, we are staying with what we have but for 2020 there could be some significant changes to our league policy on practices
    • Players must have three practices without pads before being allowed to participate in full contact practices
    • Per the MHSAA, we adopted rules in 2018 regarding our practice structure after Labor Day.  Now the MHSAA has come out with a redefined scenario that features practice limits after the first game and we have adjusted our guidelines, also.  Before the first game teams are allowed no more than three practices, per week, featuring full contact.  After the first game, teams will then be allowed no more than two days of full player-to-player contact not to exceed 45 minutes per week of contact
  • Weigh Ins
    • This is a mandatory function of the WMJFL and must be done before every game.  To make sure your community is doing this correctly click the "League Info" tab and then click "Season Breakdown & Game Procedures".  It is line item #15
  • Rules
    • Only players and coaches are allowed on the sidelines.  Anyone taking photos or videos on the sidelines and/or near the field will be asked to leave and sit in the designated spectator areas
    • For 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade divisions...once the ball is marked teams will have 35 seconds to run a play.  this seems to be an issue at times so please be mindful of this rule.  We are asking our officials to enforce them better
    • For 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade divisions...No blitzing is allowed.  However, at the snap of the ball, all defensive players may advance forward towards the line of scrimmage
  • New Venues
    • Several communities have new, updated and/or additional sites for games. They include the following...
      • Allendale may play some home games at their varsity field
      • Kellogssville's home field has installed new synthetic turf
      • South Christian has a new site for home games located at 7979 Kalamazoo Avenue in Byron Center (49315)
      • Wyoming will play home games at Wyoming Junior High School located at 2125 Wrenwood in Wyoming (49519)
      • Zeeland will be playing games at their stadium, only, for the 2019 season
  • Knowledge of our Rules
    • The WMJFL rules are very similar to those of the MHSAA but we also have numerous league rules that come into play.  The expectation is that our coaches and officials know these rules and have rule books on site so for reference, if needed.  Parents are strongly encouraged to read the rule book so as to better understand what we are trying to do and the focus we have on development
